Elouise Brown: Navajo Nation

Navajo tribal lands are rich with coal.  Yet two coal-fired power plants on the reservation belch noxious fumes, making the air among the worst in the state. Now the tribe is moving forward with plans for a bigger plant, Desert Rock, that Navajo authorities hope will bring in $50 million a year in taxes, royalties and other income by selling power to Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Dooda Desert Rock (“No Desert Rock”) is a group of indigenous residents of the Four Corners area of New Mexico, dedicated to stopping the ill-conceived Desert Rock plant proposed by the Sithe Global LLC corporation and the Diné Power Authority.

Elouise Brown, a leader in DDR, believes that economic development must not come at the expense of the health of our children, the air we breathe, our sacred land and water, and our way of life.   With her work she aims to protect and preserve the natural state of Harmony and Beauty against corporate intrusion and environmental injustices.
